Working Together Today For A Better Tomorrow
That's the line on our sign, and it's the reason Project Future W.N.Y. exists: a place in Niagara Falls where discipline, respect, and self-defense are taught the same way they have been since 1968.
From One Instructor To A Community Center
Grand Master Robert Heisner begins teaching
Studying under Grand Master Park Jong Soo (Korean National Champion, 9th degree) and Shihan H. Otsuka, founder of Wado Kai, Heisner starts what would become over 45 years as a student and instructor of martial arts — operating full-time schools in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
Teaching the wider community
Grand Master Heisner teaches martial arts at Niagara County Community College and instructs at the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy, bringing Bushido Kai's practical self-defense system beyond the dojo.
Project Future W.N.Y. is founded
Bushido Kai finds a permanent home in Niagara Falls as Project Future W.N.Y., a community center built on the belief that martial arts training builds character as much as it builds skill.
A team carrying the tradition forward
Grand Master Heisner founded PRISM, a youth development program, while instructors Chris Poette, Paul Colson, Joseph Colson, and Dave Lazarz teach the next generation of students.
The Style Of The Martial Arts Warrior
Bushido Kai blends techniques from Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan, Itosu Ryu, Wado Kai, Kyo-Kushin Kai, Bo-Jitsu, and Aiki-Jitsu into a single system — built around Budo, the traditional warrior code, and focused on the practical application of personal conditioning and self-defense for today's world. It's a system built for real use, not just for the belt test.
“To empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds through the practice of traditional karate — building physical skill, martial arts expertise, and the life skills that carry beyond the dojo.”
